Vance Veach-Zellerhoff

Vance Veach-Zellerhoff passed away unexpectedly from pneumonia December 8, 2003, in Spokane. He was 51.

Vance was born September 17, 1952, to Joanne Thomas and raised in Pomeroy by his mother and Joe Zellerhoff. He grew up in the Pomeroy and Lewiston areas.

He graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1970.

Vance had lived the past several years in Portland and had relocated to Spokane about eight months ago, where he worked for a janitorial company.

Vance had a passionate love for all animals, (especially cats!) and over his lifetime had adopted many homeless pets. He loved art, and was very creative at drawing and writing.

He will be sadly missed by wife Lisa Veach in Portland; his son, Jacob and wife Aubrey and their son, Zack, all of Spokane; two sisters, Lori Foster of Portland and Beki McClain of Sacramento, California; stepfather Jim Redmond of Vancouver; and Joe and Charlotte Zellerhoff of Lewiston. He was also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Vance was preceded in death by his mother, Joanne Redmond.

No services will be held per his request.

Dorathea May (Taylor) Waldher

Dorathea May Waldher left this world on November 27, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Pomeroy.

Dorathea was born to Josie May Robinson and David Arthur Taylor Oct. 20, 1909. She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1926. She moved to Pullman in 1926 to attend Washington State College. There she joined Alpha Delta Sorority and remained active for many years.

She married Leo Waldher Oct. 25, 1927, in Pullman. Dorathea and Leo moved back to Pomeroy to the family farm. They were blessed with four children. Leo passed away in 1957.

Dorathea worked on the family farm and raised her children. Throughout the years, she held a variety of jobs with the Census Bureau and picking fruit in the Yakima area. She also worked at the Dayton Pea Cannery.

Dorathea was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Ladies Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary and the Senior Center in Pomeroy. She was Pomeroy's Pioneer of the Year one year

She enjoyed traveling with her family to Europe and felt very fortunate to do so.

Dorathea is survived by her children, Jack Waldher of Pomeroy, Daniel Waldher of Asotin, Steven Waldher of Richland, and Barbara Stradley of Pomeroy; sister-in-law Anna Mae Bartels of Pomeroy; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Mary Lou Baker; brother David Taylor Jr.; and grandson Daniel Patrick Waldher.

Visitation and viewing will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at Richardson Brown Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the Richardson-Brown Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Pomeroy. Father Len Forsmann of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clarkston will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Pomeroy Senior Citizens Center.

Buddy Wayne Boyd

Buddy Wayne Boyd, 64, died at Pomeroy Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003. He was a lifelong resident of Garfield County, where he was a farmer and rancher.

Buddy was born Jan. 10, 1939, in Pomeroy to Emil Norman (Shorty) and Lucille Elizabeth Hull Boyd. He graduated from high school in 1958 and attended Lewis-Clark Normal School in Lewiston.

Buddy had a lifelong interest in youth and family-oriented activities involving and related to horses. In his youth he was an active participant in junior rodeo and intercollegiate rodeo and horse racing, being a jockey in Walla Walla, Waitsburg, Dayton, and Colfax. He and his family were charter members of the Pomeroy Pony Punchers and were very active in the Pomeroy Intercollegiate Rodeo in the '50s. He was active in 4-H, both as a member and later as a leader. At the time of his death, he was a strong supporter of the Eastern Washington Junior Rodeo Association and Palouse River Ropers Association and was looking forward to becoming involved in the Washington State High School rodeo circuit. He enjoyed visiting and reminiscing with his many friends at these events and wrestling tournaments and never met a stranger. He was always ready with a word of praise or advice to the young people.

He married Virginia Amy Fleshman at Enterprise, Oregon, Sept. 25,1960, and they made their home on Pataha Creek near Pomeroy and had two children. He also worked as a convenience store clerk and at McGregor Fertilizer for nine years. As his health worsened, he retired and he and his wife operated a karaoke system on occasions where he continued his enjoyment of visiting his many friends and meeting new friends.

Survivors include his mother, Lucille Boyd; wife Virginia A. Boyd; son Larry W. and Veronica Boyd; daughter Virginia R. (Ginger) Boyd; grandchildren Rebecca, Amy and Christina Boyd, Jesse Boyd and Tennant and Stephen Fletcher; daughter-in-law Sherri Boyd; stepgrandchildren Cassie Manis and Shawn Loftin, all of Pomeroy; brother-in-law Larry Fleshman of Joseph, Ore.; nephew Jason Fleshman of Nampa; niece Amy Anton of Joseph; three great-nephews; and many cousins.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday [October 9, 2003] at the Christian Church in Pomeroy with burial to follow at Pomeroy City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston.
